In our experience, the VNUS closure technique is suitable in about 90 - 95% of patients with varicose veins and results up to 3 years post surgery suggest very low recurrence rates in the longer term.
Traditional surgery using standard methods has a high recurrence rate but if properly done and carefully conducted results, we believe, can be considerably improved with the use of per-operative ultrasound guidance.
Recurrence, following varicose vein surgery, occurs for three main reasons:
1. Neovascularisation or new vein formations.
2. Inadequate surgical correction of all refluxing veins in the limb.
3. Poor surgical technique.
1. can be eliminated by use of VNUS, 2. & 3. by the use of intra-operative ultrasound. |
